Nigeria’s electoral commission, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported an attack on its official. In a social media post on Friday, INEC said the official’s residence in Lokoja, Kogi State came under siege by unknown gunmen around 3:30 a.m. today.
It rained bullets as the gunmen and security guards exchanged fire. The bandits fled after minutes of futile attempts to penetrate the building. The official, Hale Gabriel Longpet and his family were unharmed, but a vehicle was razed.
INEC is calling for a “thorough investigation and enhanced security protection for our personnel and assets in Kogi State.”
