Safiyanu Isa Andaha, the council chairman of Akwanga county of Nasarawa State, Northcentral Nigeria, reportedly kidnapped by gunmen on January 1 has been freed.
The police spokesman in Nasarawa, Ramhan Nansel, told local press that the politician was set free alongside three abducted hostages at about 8:45 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
Nansel said the victims were released because the police and a team of other security agencies mounted pressure on the bandits, refuting the news that a ransom of N10 million was paid.
