Armed Thugs Break Into Government Quarters, Assault Senator

Isah Echocho, a senator representing Kogi East district in the Nigerian Senate and appeared to be beaten by thugs armed with knives and other dangerous weapons on Tuesday inside the premises of the Kogi State Government House.

The lawmaker, narrating the ordeal, said the thugs pounced on him outside the Governor’s office after a meeting with the Governor, Yahaya Bello.  Though he was in the company of his colleagues, the attackers singled him out, accusing him of letting the opposition party sweep the votes in his district during the State’s governorship election held on Nov. 11, 2023.

“Police officers around were able to rescue me,” Echocho said, “I thank God I didn’t suffer any injury.”

Governor Bello’s Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Mohammed told local press on Wednesday that six of the attackers are in police custody.
