Jihadists kill 12 in Borno’s Chibok County

Boko Haram jihadists killed 12 persons, abducted one and injured two in a New Year’s Day attack in southern Borno district, Chibok, police authorities said on Wednesday.

The police said the terrorists, armed to the teeth with assault rifles, drove into the Gartamawa village of Chibok on motorbikes and Hilux vans, opening heavy fire on a group of people leaving the village after attending a funeral. Nine persons died in the attack.

The armed gang subsequently proceeded to the neighboring Tsiha community where they wasted three lives and abducted a lady. They also burned down houses and looted the farm products of residents.

The attacks on Gartamawa and Tsiha are part of a series of attacks that have targeted communities in Chibok. The town became infamous after Boko Haram outlaws abducted 276 schoolgirls from a government-owned college in April 2014.
