U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Visit Nigeria Next Week

The U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken is expected to be in Nigeria next week for a high-level U.S. engagement with Africa in the areas of food, climate, health and security partnership.

From Nigeria, Blinken would touch down on other African nations: Cabo Verde, Cote d’Ivoire and Angola. The trip will span from January 21 to 26, 2024.

“The Secretary will advance security partnerships based on shared values such as respect for human rights, promotion of democracy, and expansion of the rule of law,” according to a statement by the U.S. Mission in Abuja on Thursday.

“He will also emphasize our future-focused economic partnership, and how the United States is investing in infrastructure in Africa to boost two-way trade, create jobs at home and on the continent, and help Africa compete in the global marketplace,” the statement added.
