“Uncommon” Explosion Kills 2 in Ibadan, Nigeria

An explosion, which state authorities described as “uncommon”, tore through Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State in the Southwest flank of Nigeria on Tuesday night at about 7:45 p.m. local time.

The explosion, reportedly caused by explosive devices stored in a house by illegal miners, occurred at Dejo Oyelese Street in the Bodija area of Ibadan, but the vibration stretched across various locations in the city.

The devastating explosion caused extensive property damage and loss of lives. Seventy-seven people were injured and are in hospital receiving medical attention while two persons were killed.

The State Governor, Seyi Makinde assured residents that the government has “taken over and is in full control” and to ensure that survivors receive all the medical care they need.
