In a security sweep during the last week, Nigerian troops deployed under Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested several suspected criminals, including arms couriers and bandits, in Plateau and Kaduna States.
The operation, conducted jointly with the Nigerian Army’s 3rd Division, targeted hideouts and criminal networks believed to be responsible for violence and unrest in the states. According to a statement by OPSH media officer Major Samson Zhakom, the arrests were a result of intelligence-driven operations.
Zhakom reported that security forces seized weapons and ammunition during the raids. One operation in Plateau’s Qua’anpan County dislodged armed militias from a suspected hideout, resulting in the capture of AK-47 rifles, magazines, and ammunition. The military spokesperson did not disclose the number of suspects apprehended.
In a separate operation, two notorious arms couriers were apprehended in Plateau and Kaduna. Another member of the gunrunners gang had earlier been nabbed on June 20 in Kano State.
These arrests come amidst ongoing efforts to curb violence and criminal activity in Plateau and Kaduna. The regions have been plagued by banditry, violence, and kidnappings.
