Nigerian businesses got a major shot in the arm on Monday as the U.S. government awarded $26.6 million in grants. This funding, distributed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), aims to tackle food security challenges in the country.
The grants target 33 Nigerian companies working in agriculture. By supporting these businesses, USAID hopes to increase food production and make food more accessible for Nigerians. This initiative is expected to create jobs and strengthen the Nigerian economy alongside improving food security.
“The U.S. government is deeply invested in Africa’s prosperity,” declared Michelle Corzine, USAID’s Director of Economic Growth, Agriculture and Power. She highlighted the interconnectedness between African and global well-being, stating that “Africa’s success and prosperity are essential to ensuring a better future for all of us.”
Specific details about the recipient companies and individual grant amounts were not made public.
