Sokoto Protest Convener Backs Down, Cites Security Threat

The convener of the planned #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest in Sokoto State, Bashar Binji, announced the abrupt withdrawal of his group from the nationwide demonstrations on the evening of July 30.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Binji cited credible intelligence suggesting that hoodlums were planning to infiltrate the protest, targeting markets, banks, and government buildings, leading to the cancellation.

“As responsible citizens, we do not want to give them (the hoodlums) that opportunity,” Binji emphasized. “We have therefore resolved to withdraw from the planned protest for the safety of all the residents and their properties.”

Despite the withdrawal of the Sokoto group from the nationwide protest, demonstrations are ongoing in major cities such as Lagos and Abuja, amidst growing concerns about potential security breaches during the protests. Meanwhile, security agencies are on the alert and proactive to prevent disturbances.
