Notorious Boko Haram Member Surrenders to Nigerian Troops in Borno

A notorious Boko Haram member has surrendered to Nigerian troops in Borno State, according to a statement from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). Chief Military Information Officer Olaniyi Osoba announced Saturday that Bochu Abacha, a key figure in Boko Haram operations, turned himself in to the MNJTF in Kukawa County (Local Government Area).

Abacha admitted to participating in several terrorist activities in the Monguno-Baga axis and surrendered due to intense military pressure and a loss of interest in the group’s cause. He also revealed that he escaped from a Boko Haram camp in Mussaram with his weapon.

Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, a mobile phone, and a cash sum of ₦32,500 ($19.48) from him. Osoba noted that Abacha is providing valuable intelligence to authorities.
