Bandits Kill 9 Security Operatives in Katsina State

 A series of attacks by bandits in Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria on Friday resulted in the deaths of nine security personnel, including members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps and Vigilante Corps, local security organizations in Katsina State formed to complement the efforts of the official security forces. They are made up of volunteers from the community who are trained to patrol their neighborhoods and provide security.

The attacks happened in Faskari and Matazu Counties (Local Government Areas), known for their high rates of banditry. In one incident, bandits ambushed security operatives providing protection for farmers harvesting crops near Unguwar Kafa along the Yankara-Faskari Road. A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the deaths of six security personnel. In another attack, bandits targeted vigilante officers from Matazu, killing three and injuring one.

Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep condolences to the families of the fallen security operatives and commended their bravery and sacrifice. “These brave men who lost their lives are true heroes of our state. Their sacrifice in service to Katsina will never be forgotten. We stand with their families in this difficult time and assure them of our unwavering support,” Governor Radda stated in a press release.

He also disclosed that investigations are ongoing to bring the killers to justice while reaffirming his commitment to the security and welfare of all residents.
