The town of Egwuma in Agatu Local Government Area in Central Benue State is in flames and the 3,000 inhabitants have sought cover in surrounding forests, TruthNigeria has learned from reporter Ekani Olikita.

Travel to and around Egwuma should be avoided for the next 48 hours.

The forward operating base in Egwuma reportedly set up in

August had no garrison in its quarters at the time of the attack early on Oct. 10, according to sources speaking to TruthNigeria.

“The Nigerian Army deserves credit for setting up a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in August,” according to Rep. Ojutu Ojema, who represents Agatu in Nigeria’s House of Representatives.

“We were informed that the soldiers there fought off an assault from a large invading force on Oct 1, losing two of the 20 soldiers on site at the time,” said Rep. Ojema to TruthNigeria, while on a business trip to Houston, Texas in the United States.  “But it’s clear the army needs a larger defensive force in Egwuma due to the ascending attacks by land-grabbing terrorists,” Rep Ojema said.  The attack on Oct 1, took the lives on the Traditional Monarch and six other local residents, as reported by TruthNigeria.

“When I get back to the office, we plan to draft legislation to increase staffing of the military in Benue,” he said.
