Nigeria and Brazil to Establish Direct Flights in Renewed Air Service Agreement

Nigeria and Brazil are working toward establishing direct flights between the two countries as part of a renewed Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA). Nigeria’s Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister, Festus Keyamo, held discussions with Brazilian Ambassador Carlos Garcete, to finalize the agreement.

A statement released by the minister’s aide, Tunde Moshood, revealed that both nations are looking to enhance economic cooperation through increased air connectivity. “This meeting stems from the mutual interests shared by President Bola Tinubu and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva,” Moshood said.

Ambassador Garcete noted the potential for four to five flights per week, stressing the economic benefits for both countries. “The introduction of direct flights will spark significant economic growth between our countries,” he said. He also emphasized the need to finalize the Open Skies Agreement.

Minister Keyamo expressed optimism about the agreement’s impact on trade and cultural exchanges. “There are numerous similarities between Nigeria and Brazil, and the activation of these flights will not only enhance trade but also strengthen cultural and social exchanges,” he said.

Nigerian airlines Air Peace and Caverton have been designated to operate the route once the agreement is finalized.
