Armed bandits kidnapped 10 people, including a nursing mother and her week-old baby in an attack on Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zamfara State’s Zurmi county.
Invaders stormed the village around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday from different directions, firing gunshots indiscriminately, according to media reports. Villagers ran helter-skelter to evade being killed and being captured and taken away as hostages.
The military personnel deployed to the town to save the situation were grossly inadequate. “The military actually tried their best to repel the attack. One soldier was injured during the shootout,” a villager told Channels Television. State authorities have yet to comment on the latest attack.
