Gunmen kill 3 people during deadly bank robbery in Ekiti

Heavily armed gunmen attacked two banks in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Wednesday evening, December 13, and gunned down three persons, while leaving several others seriously injured, Nigerian media reports.

The robbers, numbering about 20, stormed the town in motorcycles and a small black car and began to shoot recklessly into the air. While some of the gunmen were keeping security operatives and residents at bay, others went into the banks. Banks robbed included Wema Bank and Access Bank located in different areas of the town, Independent reported.

The gang reportedly blew up the bulletproof doors of the banks with explosives and carted away money from the banks’ vaults. The armed group operated for nearly an hour without interference from security agencies, having injured or disarmed members of the citizen guards before their operation.
