Police authorities in Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria, arrested an errand boy of a bandit lord called Emir operating in Zamfara State last week.
The errand boy, Musa Yusuf, was accosted by the police on his way to Zamfara on a motorbike to deliver a bag filled with 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition to the bandit leader. Zamfara is about 198 miles from Kaduna.
He had earlier collected the firearms from the supplier. But he ran into a police roadblock in Tudun Wada village in Zaria county of Kaduna State. He jumped off the motorbike and made to escape but the police officers caught him.
“Early inquisition revealed that Musa Yusuf was on an errand for a bandit alias Emir in Zurmi forest. He was to receive the ammunition at Bakin Kogi in Kauru county of Kaduna State and convey the same to the said bandit,” police spokesman Munsir Hassan said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
Hassan said an investigation on the matter is still in progress to arrest anyone involved in the arms trafficking.
