The mounting security crisis that has gripped Northwest Zamfara State in recent times has led to the impeachment of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Moriki.
Moriki’s impeachment last Thursday was endorsed by 75 percent of the lawmakers. They pointed to the relentless attacks, deaths, and abductions that have become a grim part of the daily life of Zamfaran citizens.
The lawmakers, driven by a pressing need to confront the escalating banditry attacks by radicalized criminal gangs plaguing the state that prides itself as the land of farming, elected an interim speaker.
The House charged Bashar Gummi to serve as Moriki’s replacement for the time being.
