5 Dead as Herders Reportedly Go House-to-House in Adamawa Attack

No fewer than five persons were killed in an unprovoked attack by herders on farmers early Sunday in Adamawa State, according to local sources.

The incident happened around 4:00 a.m. local time in Kukta, Waltandi district of Song County (Local Government Area). A resident said the violence followed earlier attacks by the extremists.

“The conflict actually started some days ago, leading to the death of one farmer and one herdsman,” the source said. “It, however, escalated when herders struck very early about 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, moving from house to house and killing five persons.”

The police have deployed security forces to the area. “The CP is deeply saddened by this unfortunate event… and reassures the government and good people of Song local government that the perpetrators will be brought to justice,” said police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje.
