Sunday Okoebor, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), was shot dead by gunmen who stormed his residence in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State on Tuesday for a robbery operation. The robbers gunned down the police supervisor during a fierce exchange of gunfire with a team of policemen.
The police were nearly overpowered by the gunmen when troops of the Nigerian Army in the oil-producing state arrived at the scene in response to a “distress call about the robbery.”
The police and army joint team captured ten of the robbers. “Two of the suspects were shot and captured along with eight others, while two others managed to escape with bullet wounds,” Army spokesperson Ibrahim Gambari told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
