Police authorities told Channels Television that in lawless Taraba State 50 bandits terrorizing the Bali area have been eliminated. However, bandits operating within Bali County of Taraba State slew fifteen hunters guarding their remote Bali community against all-too-familiar attacks by armed groups.
According to Daily Trust, the hunters blocked the entrance to the village to ward off the army of intruders. But the bandits, armed with assault and sniper rifles, overpowered them, killing no fewer than 15 civilian guards and leaving several others to battle for their lives.
Taraba State is rife with banditry. The motorbike-riding gangs known locally as bandits attack remote communities, often taking advantage of the inadequate security presence in those areas.
Locals are left to take up arms, usually homemade pipe shotguns, and defend themselves. But in most cases, they sacrifice their lives to protect their family and loved ones.
Another ruthless attack on citizen guards, or vigilantes, in nearby Dakka town by bandits resulted in the death of three persons.
