Nigeria seeks U.S. collaboration in fight against terrorism

Nigeria is seeking the support of the United States Congress in addressing the country’s pressing security challenges, including banditry and terrorism.

Bello Matawalle, Nigeria’s minister of state for defence, said Nigeria would welcome international support to rid the country of terrorists.

Matawalle is currently on a working visit to the United States, where he met with members of the U.S. Congress in the Capitol on December 13, including Congresswoman Betty McCollum, the ranking member on the U.S. House Subcommittee on Appropriation for Defence.

The Minister said Nigeria’s collaboration with the United States, given the years-long bilateral relationship between the two countries, would go a long way to make the country terrorism-free. McCollum agreed, expressing the unwavering willingness and commitment of the United States in supporting Nigeria to combat terrorism and other security threats.
