Troops of the Nigerian Army dubbed “Operation Hadarin Daji” marched to the hideouts of terrorist gangs in Isa county of Sokoto State on December 22, destroying the rebels’ shelters and rescuing 52 abducted persons.
In a social media post on Saturday (Dec. 23), the Nigerian Army said the raided enclaves were at Saruwa, Kubuta, and Gundumi villages and Bunwanga Gundumi forest. The rescued victims include 14 males, 32 females and six children.
The post did not say if any arrests were made or how many terrorists were downed during the operation. “Several terrorists were neutralized,” the Army stated.
A similar crackdown on terrorist gangs in Niger and Kaduna States on December 23 led to the rescue of 14 abducted victims. The terrorists’ camps were razed to the ground with several rebels killed in a fierce firefight while some retreated with gunshot wounds.
Nigerian army spokesmen have not explained to the public the reason for the discrepancy between effective crackdowns against bandits in majority Muslim states of Sokoto, Niger and Kaduna and the abject failure of military response to a three-day massacre of Christian farmers in majority-Christian Plateau State.
