Nigeria’s military chopper crashes amid war against insecurity

A fighter helicopter of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) suffered a fatal mishap and crashed in Port Harcourt, the capital city of oil-rich Rivers State, on Friday morning.

A press statement by NAF spokesperson Edward Gabkwet said the aircraft crashed at 7:45 a.m. local time. The chopper had just taken off to repel an attack by hoodlums when the accident happened.

All five officials onboard survived though with “minor injuries.” Gabkwet noted that an “incident of this nature is yet again a grim reminder of the dangers associated with military flying and the risks NAF pilots and technicians experience in their onerous tasks of defending our nation and deterring criminal elements from their nefarious activities.”
