A police inspector in Nigeria’s southern Rivers State, Nelson Abuante, reportedly committed suicide on Sunday (Dec. 17) a few hours after he shot his colleague identified as Monday Gbaramana dead.
The two officers had gone to make an arrest when Abuante fired a bullet to compel obedience from a suspect. The bullet hit Gbaramana, who died some minutes later.
Abuante, presumably ridden with guilt, shot himself with his rifle and died on the spot. Police spokesperson in Rivers, Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident.
She said both corpses have been deposited in the mortuary and that investigation has begun “to unravel what really happened.”
