Kurya village in Rabah county of Sokoto State faced a night of terror on Christmas Eve as bandits launched a brutal attack, claiming the lives of 12 unarmed villagers and abducting three women.
The bandits invaded the remote farming community at exactly 8:30 p.m. local time on Sunday, shooting recklessly. Among the victims was a family whose house was set ablaze. The occupants: a woman, her two children and her daughter-in-law were all burned alive in the fire.
After about an hour of uninterrupted destruction and killing spree, the Nigerian Army intervened, engaging the bandits in a gun duel.
“We are suspecting they (the terrorists) too suffered heavy losses because we saw bloodstains where they parked their motorcycles. But you know they don’t leave their corpses behind,” a villager, Yusuf Garba told Daily Trust.
