Three inmates escaped from a prison in Southwest Ogun State, officials said Tuesday, adding that the prisoners fled at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 23).
The escapees are still missing, and the prison authorities have begun an intensive search for them, urging citizens to report immediately to the authorities on seeing any of them.
“We have their biometrics, and we have contacts of their families. We are working together with other sister agencies, and in good time they will be brought back,” Victor Oyeleke, a spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service in Ogun said.
According to reports in local media, the inmates jumped the fence and fled unnoticed by officials on duty. The fleeing prisoners were identified as Hammed Adeboyejo, convicted of armed robbery and murder; Fatai Taiwo Akande, convicted of murder; and Aliu Oguntona sentenced for sexual offences.
