Bandits Injure 2 Policemen and Kidnap Residents in Nigeria’s Capital, Abuja

The lingering insecurity in Nigeria is gradually spreading to suburbs of the country’s capital city Abuja as the Nigerian government struggles to raise the ante in fighting jihadist groups like Boko Haram and kidnapping gangs, known locally as bandits.

Nigerian media has reported that bandits who attacked the Zuma community in Bwari Area Council of Nigeria’s capital city on Wednesday morning kidnapped an unspecified number of locals and left two policemen badly bruised.

Bwari and nearby communities have come under intense attacks by bandits since Dec. 23. Several persons have been taken away to an unknown destination while others have been killed, including a pastor.

Locals in Bwari and other border towns are already fleeing their homes, in search of safer havens due to the unchecked bandit attacks.
