Ten persons were on Sunday night kidnapped by a band of bandits who invaded Sagwari Layout Estate in Dutse, a suburb of the Bwari Area Council in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja.
The bandits, dressed as herders of the Fulani tribe, struck the residential estate at about 7:30 p.m. and abducted eight residents. They then proceeded to abduct two staff members of a nearby hotel and took the victims to the hills behind the estate.
The outlaws engaged in a fierce gun battle with the security agents, firing from vantage positions atop the hills.
The attack came just as police authorities assured residents of Abuja, particularly those living within Bwari and environs, of their safety. Commissioner of Police Haruna Garba said additional police personnel had been deployed to contain the mounting security threats.
