An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has killed two local security operatives called the Civilian Joint Task Force in Mafa county of Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

Eight other civilian guards were critically injured and are currently in the hospital.

The civilian guards, locally called vigilantes, were on a routine patrol along the Mafa/Konduga county axis when their vehicle hit the homemade landmine, suspected to have been planted by the Islamic terror group, Boko Haram. Two of the vigilantes died on the spot.

Mafa is about 31.1 miles away from Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State and is the hometown of the State governor, Babagana Zulum.
