House of Reps in Nigeria Plans Security Summit As Violent Attacks Swell

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has hinted at holding a security summit to explore novel ways of ending the escalating reign of terror in the West African country.

The Speaker, Tajuddeen Abbas made the disclosure on Monday during plenary, the first in 2024, in Abuja unknown to him that 150 miles away in Plateau State, an armed group was preparing to run riot.

At 6:00 p.m. local time, the terrorists struck villages occupied by Christians in the West of Bokkos county including Garau, Maggi, and Wang. The violence continued until January 30, leaving in its trail an unknown number of casualties and many burnt worship centers.

Abbas said the upcoming summit on security would allow authorities to brainstorm on how best to decisively deal with the distressing situation.

“It is time to harness our collective expertise, to break the silos that have hindered our progress, and to chart a new course towards peace and stability,” the Speaker said.
