A young Nigerian identified as Ifeanyi Kalu was arrested over the weekend in the act of killing his girlfriend of four years for ritual purposes.
In Nigeria, ritual killings involve the extra-judicial murder of human beings to obtain their body parts to propitiate spirits that can bring financial wealth, political favor, success in business or advancement in religious organizations.
Kalu, who is a “Yahoo boy”, the Nigerian speak for internet fraudster, said he recently joined a cult group which assured him of riches if he killed his lover.
The young man was arrested by volunteer civilian guards, locally known as vigilantes, alongside his friend whom he said was in on the plan with him.
