ISWAP Militants Amputate Fishermen’s Hands for “Stealing”

Two fishermen in the Marte district of Borno State are now left without one hand after jihadists punished them for refusing to pay extortion payments.

As reported by Zagazola Makama, the fishermen failed to pay the tax imposed on them by the ISWAP terrorists. The terrorists seized the fishermen’s eight cartons of fish meant for sale in order to enforce compliance.

As the militants’ canoe was too small to contain all the cartons, they left with only six cartons. Each carton contains about 20–30 fishes. The fishermen took back the abandoned two cartons, but it cost them their right hands as the rebel gang accused them of stealing.

The Islamic extremist group launched an insurgency in North-eastern Nigeria in 2009 to establish their radical interpretation of Islamic law, or Sharia, in the region.
