Nigerian Army Kills 11 ISWAP Fighters, Destroy 25 Terrorist Camps

Troops of “Operation Hadin Kai” of the Nigerian Army have reportedly downed 11 fighters of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno State.

The troops also destroyed 25 camps, hideouts and operating bases of the Islamic extremists in the Sambisa Forest and Timbuktu Triangle in the operation that began on Jan. 7.

Sambisa Forest and Timbuktu Triangle are two of the four major strongholds of the jihadists. The other two are Mandara Mountain and Lake Chad Tumbus. There are about 50 communities within and around the four areas that are controlled by the terrorists.

During the crackdown, the military engaged the terrorists in a heated gun battle. Several of the jihadists retreated to escape death including ISWAP commandant Abu Aisha (Khaid) and her four assistant commanders (Munzir).

Also on the run are terrorist kingpins Bako, Mallam Abubakar, Abu Ibrahim, and Hanzala (also a Khaid). The Nigerian troops are after them, determined to hunt them down.
