Nigerian Government Moves to End Terrorism in Northwest with “Pulaaku Initiative”

The Nigerian government looks to deal with insurgency and banditry in the North with what it calls the “Pulaaku Initiative”, which it says is a non-kinetic solution to the ballooning security threats in the country.

Pulaaku Initiative will be launched in all the seven Northwest States of Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Benue, Zamfara, Niger and Kaduna to “catalyze the fortunes of this region” by building houses, clinics and schools, and provision of essential services in terrorist-prone communities.

The initiative is a brain child of Kashim Shettima, the Vice President of Nigeria. Shettima said, last year, that the security crisis in the Northwest region is overwhelming for Nigerian military.

President Bola Tinubu earlier this week gave the go-ahead order for the program to begin with a start-up funds of N50 billion.
