Nigerian Military Rescues Cameroonian Soldier, 7 Others from Trans-border Bandits

In a joint military–vigilante operation, the Nigerian military rescued three Cameroonians, including a soldier, and five other persons from the trans-border bandits, police told local press on Thursday.

The Cameroonians were reportedly abducted on Monday by rebels sheltered in a forest that cuts across the Nigerian States of Adamawa and Taraba, and Cameroon from where they launch unprovoked attacks on defenceless citizens.

The five other rescued hostages were abducted from Taraba State. The bandits, locals say, strike mostly on market days to loot homes and farms, killing and abducting helpless residents. The security situation that has left locals feeling more unsafe appears to have overwhelmed the local authorities.
