Nigeria’s Northcentral Governors team up to fight bandits

As Plateau State reeled from the agonizing Christmas Eve massacre by herders of the Fulani tribe, Gov. Caleb Mutfwang on Tuesday rallied his Northcentral colleagues to get to the roots of the precarious security situation in the region and find a permanent solution.

The attacks, which affected Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Manu counties, led to the death of 295 people, the destruction of about 221 houses, and the displacement of more than 10,000 locals of the attacked villages.

TruthNigeria exclusively reports that the horrific attacks were carried out by more than 3,000 armed bandits. They marched from village to village, chanting “Allahu Akbar (God is great) as they slaughtered people without blinking an eye, according to witnesses who spoke to TruthNigeria’s senior editor Masara Kim.

Governors Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, and Mohammed Bago of Niger State each condemned the heinous act. Sule likened the unprovoked attacks to the 1994 Rwandan pogrom.

Governor Mutfwang expressed his determination to unite with his Nasarawa, Benue and Niger colleagues to combat armed banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities prevalent in farming communities in the Northcentral region.

Stefanos Foundation reported on Jan. 3 that the Christmas campaign attacks, which continue, were eerily similar to a mass attack campaign by Fulani terrorists for three weeks in June 2018. Those attacks targeted 18 communities in Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Jos South counties, taking the lives of 233 unarmed residents. After six years, “some of the communities attacked in the past are already occupied by Fulani herdsmen,” Stefanos Foundation reported in “Black Christmas in Plateau State, Nigeria.”
