Nigeria’s defence chief, General Christopher Musa, says the military is establishing synergy with state governments to identify terror-prone areas across the country and devise effective strategies to fight the bandit gangs.
Motorbike-riding bandit gangs are on rampage in Africa’s most populous nation, raiding remote villages, killing, and abducting residents as well as burning houses and displacing dozens.
“This year, God willing, we will make sure bandits hold no community,” General Musa said in a televised interview on Monday, assuring that residents of overrun communities sheltered in government-run IDP camps would return home.
The Defense Chief said though it seems that the military has been handicapped by the rising security challenges, the Nigerian troops are “doing so much” and are “achieving a lot”.
