Nigerian Authorities Warn Football Fans of Potential Threats Ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON Clash with South Africa

The Nigerian High Commission in South Africa has urged Nigerian visitors in the country to maintain “good conduct” before, during and after the Super Eagles’ clash with Bafana Bafana on Wednesday.

On Saturday, February 3, South Africa outscored Cape Verde 2-1 on penalties following a 0-0 draw after extra time in the last quarterfinal of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023. The day before, Nigeria also clinched the semi-final ticket after beating Angola 1-0.

The old-time foes will meet at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. to battle through the race to the finals.

The Nigerian Embassy authorities said South Africans were plotting to show “pepper to Nigerians if the Bafana Bafana lose to the Super Eagles.”

“The High Commission hereby advises the Nigerian community to be watchful of their utterances, be mindful of where they choose to watch the match, especially in public places, and refrain from engaging in loud, riotous or provocative celebrations should the Super Eagles win the match,” the statement read.
