In the heart of Mangu county of Plateau State, the Nigerian Army troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) busted a weapon manufacturing factory.
The raid led to the seizure of an array of fabricated firearms and an arrest while the search for the owner of the factory continues.
Mangu, a Christian-populated county, is one of the worst-hit by Fulani radical Muslim terrorists in Plateau.
On the morning of February 15, 2024, the Special Military Taskforce descended upon Pakachi village in Mangu in a clearance operation.
An isolated building caught their attention and on getting closer, they found the building is used to fabricate all kinds of ammunition.
“During the operation, a significant number of illicit firearms and related equipment were recovered and one suspect apprehended,” a statement by the Nigerian Army reads. Among the items recovered were AK 47 rifles, Dane guns, assorted drilling irons, gun barrels, ammunition, filing machines, and drilling machines, among others.
Tapshak Plangji, a 25-year-old male, was arrested during the operation. He was involved in the illegal activities at the factory, the Nigeria Army said. The alleged owner of the facility, Mr Nuhu Meshack, is on the run.
