After narrowly escaping death during a lethal airstrike by the Nigerian military that killed several of his fighters in November 2023, two bandit kingpins have been gunned down. (See related story on this site).
Samuel Aruwan, the spokesman for the Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani announced Boderi’s death on Thursday, saying the bandit lord was slain alongside two of his fighters by Nigerian soldiers on Wednesday night.
“Boderi, as he was simply known, had for nearly a decade propagated a reign of fear, death and destruction in Kaduna State and neighboring Niger State, with a trademark of brutal attacks, mass abductions and cruel, relentless killing,” said Aruwan.
The Army troops reportedly laid an ambush for the bandit gang which snared them. But the bandit resisted arrest, leading to a gunfight.
The military overpowered Boderi and his men. Two outlaws were killed on the spot while others, including Boderi who was badly injured, retreated. Zagazola Makama reports that Boderi died after a short while from bullet injuries. A subordinate commander in Boderi’s gang known as “Bodejo,” was also killed in the shootout.
“The elimination of Boderi Isyaku, as a notable milestone in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry, demonstrates the effectiveness of determined and coordinated efforts by security forces in confronting those who seek to spread fear and chaos,” Aruwan added.
