A protest against President Tinubu’s government over the prevalent economic crisis in Suleja, Niger State on Thursday turned violent as protesters blocked truck trailers loaded with food items and carted them away.
The mob burned tires on the road as a trap and intercepted many truck trailers en route to Kaduna from Abuja. Suleja is 34 miles north of Nigeria’s capital Abuja and 107 miles from Kaduna.
“Many of them went away with bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, and other food items,” Alhassan Abdullahi, an eyewitness who watched in disbelief as the scene unfolded, told local media.
As the mob, driven by hunger and armed with nothing but sheer audacity, continued in their siege, security personnel stationed nearby took immediate action. They fired shots into the air to disperse the unruly crowd and secured the yet-to-be touched cargoes.
