Super Eagles Break into Africa Top 3 After AFCON Performance

Despite losing the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) crown, the Super Eagles of Nigeria has been ranked the 28th national team in the world.

AFCON winners Côte D’Ivoire reaped the rewards of their continental triumph on home soil by being the 39th team in the table.

The new ranking released by FIFA today saw Nigeria make their biggest jump from 42nd in December 2023 to 28th globally.

A run that saw the country reach the AFCON final and winning the silver after a 2-1 win in favor of Côte D’Ivoire raised its points to 1,522 as against the 1,474 points in December 2023.

The Super Eagles’ performance further shoots up Nigeria as the third-placed best in Africa, after Morocco and Senegal which took the 1st and 2nd positions respectively. Côte D’Ivoire was ranked 5th on the continent.
