The Borno State chairman of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Lawan Jafar, has assured the public of the group’s unwavering commitment to eliminating the remaining threats posed by Boko Haram and other insurgent groups in the Northeast state.
Jafar made this statement during a press briefing in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, which has borne the brunt of the Boko Haram insurgency for more than a decade.
“Our main priority remains ensuring the total clearance of Boko Haram remnants and other insurgents in the state,” Ja’afar declared on Thursday. The CJTF is a volunteer group of local men with a deep understanding of the region’s terrain who assist the military in operations against the Islamist jihadists.
Jafar pledged the CJTF’s continued support for the Nigerian military in their fight against terrorism after the group received a cash gift of N255 million and bags of rice from the State Governor, Babagana Zulum. Zulum said the gifts were in recognition and appreciation of the CJTF’s efforts in defending the people of the state.
Jafar’s assurance and the Governor’s gesture comes amid ongoing efforts to completely dismantle Boko Haram. While significant progress has been made, the group continues to launch sporadic attacks, particularly in remote areas.
