On Sunday, a Boko Haram fighter, Sajeh Yaga, made the critical decision to surrender to Nigerian army troops in Mafa, a town often targeted by the insurgency.
The reasons behind the fighter’s defection remain unclear. However, it follows a trend of increased Boko Haram defections in recent months, attributed to intensified military operations against the outlaws.
The surrendered fighter relinquished his weapons: an AK47 rifle, four AK47 magazines, six 7.62mm special ammunitions and three Tecno mobile phones and other items. He is currently being questioned by military authorities.
