Nigerian Christian leaders under the aegis of National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) suspect foreign actors are behind the bloodshed in Nigeria. NCEF claims that “foreign invaders masquerading as religious extremists” are behind the unending carnage in the country.
During a recent press conference led by NCEF chairman Samuel Gani and pastor Bosun Emmanuel, the forum placed the blame for the killings on outside forces. They insisted that these invaders target all ethnicities and religions, including Christians, Muslims, and those following traditional faiths.
“Nigerians have no problem with each other. It is external forces that are seeking to tear the country apart for hostile takeover of the land and its resources,” said NCEF. The group pointed to areas like Plateau and Kaduna States where they believe villages have been seized by these foreign Fulani [one of the largest tribes in Nigeria) militants, displacing residents.
Boko Haram, Islamic State in West Africa and Ansaru and other extremist groups are known threats in Nigeria, but the NCEF places blame on “external forces.” The group urged Nigerians to unite against this “external threat” and also recommended that President Tinubu should appoint a “special investigator to conduct a commission of inquiry into the causes, as well as expose the actors, in the various acts of terrorism and insurgency that have overwhelmed Nigeria since 2009.”
