The Nigerian Army claims a major victory against the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) by successfully apprehending a high-ranking militant commander, Saidu Hassan Yellow, alias Abu Saidu.
Yellow, a notorious figure known for his brutality, was captured during a recent military operation in the Mubi area of Nigeria’s northeast Adamawa State on April 9th.
Details surrounding the operation are still emerging, but Chad Basin security and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama confirmed Yellow’s capture in a raid targeting a key ISWAP hideout in Adamawa.
Yellow, 32 years old, is believed to be responsible for numerous attacks on Nigerian civilians and military personnel. On November 12, 2021, he led an attack on a military base, killing three soldiers. “The terrorists have been moved to the military high command for investigation and profiling,” Zagazola Makama said.
Yellow’s capture is a major development in the ongoing fight against insurgency in Nigeria. Many Nigerians believe this success is a significant blow to ISWAP’s operations in the region. However, authorities caution that the fight against terrorism is far from over.
