Nigerian troops launched a successful surprise raid against Boko Haram and ISWAP hideouts in Borno State on Wednesday. The raids, which took place across several locations in the northeast Borno State, dealt a significant blow to the insurgent groups.
Chad Basin security and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, confirmed that the pre-dawn offensive targeted key insurgent hideouts and training camps. Soldiers engaged in heavy fighting with the militants, with reports indicating substantial insurgent casualties and the capture of strategic locations.
“The operation was aimed at destroying Boko Haram and ISWAP enclaves in Sambisa Forest, Timbuktu and its surroundings,” Zagazola Makama reported. “During the operations, suspected Boko Haram /ISWAP Terrorists surrendered to the troops while others were neutralized.”
