Nigeria’s Top General Sounds Clarion Call for Unity Against Terror

Nigeria’s top military officer, General Christopher Musa, gave a message of unity on Saturday, calling on Nigerians to stand shoulder-to-shoulder in the fight against terrorism, putting aside tribal and religious divisions.

Speaking at a sports event in Abuja, Gen. Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, declared, “Nigeria is challenged. We need a united Nigeria to confront all the challenges we face.”  He specifically highlighted the need to combat “banditry, terrorism and other social vices” as a unified front.

Nigeria faces a complex security landscape. Boko Haram and ISWAP continue their violent campaigns in the north, while banditry and kidnappings plague other regions.  General Musa’s call for unity underscores the gravity of these issues and the need for a collective effort to find solutions.

This message comes in the wake of recent attacks.  On the day Gen. Musa gave his message, an ISWAP-linked bomb explosion tragically killed eight members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Northeast Borno State.

General Musa emphasized the importance of civilian support for the military. He urged Nigerians to unite and “confront the evil that is coming against us.”
