Three abducted children, aged between one and three, have been rescued by the Nigerian Police Force in Benin City, Edo State. The children, missing from Ebonyi State’s Ohaozara County (local government area) since earlier this year, were found hidden in an orphanage.
The rescue follows a dedicated investigation by the Ebonyi State Police’s gender unit, sparked by reports from the children’s mothers. They identified a key suspect, who conspired in the disappearances, leading the investigation beyond Ebonyi’s borders.
Following leads and meticulous detective work, the police team traced the missing children to an orphanage in Benin City, about 171 miles away, and detained the head of the orphanage, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, for questioning.
According to Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, he is providing “valuable information” to assist in the ongoing investigation. The suspect was also linked to the abduction of three other children.
