Three University of Calabar (UNICAL) students were quietly abducted from their hostel on Thursday night, according to a statement from the Cross River State Police Command on Sunday.
The students, identified as Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level student of Medicine and Surgery, Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level student of Genetics and Biotechnology, and Damilola Dickson, a final-year student in the same department, were reportedly taken from their hostel rooms on campus.
Details surrounding the abductions remain unclear. Police spokesperson, Superintendent Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident and stated, “The students were abducted on Thursday night at one of the university hostels inside the campus. We are not giving details of the abduction at this time, but the police are working collaboratively with other agencies to secure the safe release of the students.”
The university administration has not yet issued an official statement. However, students on campus are expressing concern and demanding swift action from the authorities.
“This is incredibly disturbing,” said a final-year student at UNICAL who wished to remain anonymous. “The safety of students should be a top priority. We need to know what the university and the police are doing to bring our fellow students back home safely.”
